Tech recruitment agencies in the Netherlands compared (2026): which type fits your vacancy?
Gepubliceerd 2 november 2026 · laatst bijgewerkt · Chavez Peters · 5 min lezen
There is no single best tech recruitment agency in the Netherlands, only a best type of agency for your vacancy. Six types side by side, with examples, costs, speed and when each one fits.
Short answer
The best tech recruitment agency depends on your vacancy. For volume and temporary capacity, a large generalist or a secondment firm fits. For a senior software, cloud or AI engineer in a permanent role, a specialised tech recruitment agency fits. For one platform such as ServiceNow or Microsoft, a niche agency fits, and for C-level roles an executive search firm. Compare agencies on four points: focus, contract type, cost model and how fast they present a first suitable candidate.
Disclosure: this article is written by Chase IT Recruitment, one of the agencies in this overview. We have tried to describe each type fairly, including where another type fits better than we do.
Six types of tech recruitment agencies side by side
| Type | Examples | Strong at | Less strong at | Usual cost model |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Large generalist | Randstad, Hays, Robert Half, Michael Page | Volume, national coverage, also temporary and interim | Scarce senior profiles who are not actively looking | Percentage of annual salary or hourly rate |
| Secondment firm or consultancy | Brunel, Yacht | Fast temporary capacity and projects; the engineer stays employed by the agency | A permanent hire at your company; the engineer often moves between assignments | Hourly rate for as long as the assignment runs |
| Specialised tech recruitment agency | Search X Recruitment, European Tech Recruit, Chase IT Recruitment | Software, data, cloud and AI engineers who are not actively looking | Large numbers at once or non-technical roles | Usually 18 to 25 percent of annual salary, often no cure no pay |
| Niche agency for one platform | Nelson Frank (ServiceNow) | Deep knowledge of one ecosystem | Roles outside that platform | Percentage or hourly rate |
| Executive search | Boutique search firms | CTO, VP Engineering, roles above roughly €150,000 | Medior and senior roles, speed | Retainer paid in instalments |
| Recruitment as a Service (RaaS) or RPO | Various providers | Several roles at once on an ongoing basis | One single vacancy | Fixed monthly fee |
The examples are agencies that, according to their own websites, work in that category. This is not a ranking and not a complete list.
Which type fits which situation?
| Your situation | Best fitting type | Why |
|---|---|---|
| You need ten testers or service desk staff | Large generalist or secondment firm | Volume and speed matter more than specialism |
| You need extra capacity for a six-month project | Secondment firm or freelance platform | You only pay while the project runs |
| You need a senior .NET, Java or Python engineer in a permanent role | Specialised tech agency | These people do not respond to job ads and have to be approached |
| You need an AI or ML engineer with production experience | Specialised tech agency with an AI focus | The agency must be able to tell an AI engineer, an ML engineer and a data scientist apart |
| You need a ServiceNow architect | Niche agency or tech agency with a ServiceNow network | A small, international network |
| You need a CTO | Executive search | Discretion, assessment and a longer process |
| You want to hire five to ten engineers this year | RaaS or a volume agreement with a tech agency | A fixed team and a fixed price work out cheaper than separate fees |
Four questions to ask every agency
- How many roles like mine did you fill last year? A specialist names roles, stacks and salaries, not a general success rate.
- When will I see the first candidate, and have you spoken to them yourself? A good tech agency presents within a week. An agency that only forwards CVs does not save you time.
- What does it cost, and when do I pay? Ask for the percentage, whether it is exclusive or not, and what happens if someone leaves in the first months.
- What do you think of my salary and requirements? An agency that agrees with everything has no view of the market. In our own data, a senior engineer asks a median of €6,075 gross per month (salary expectations of 133 engineers).
What does each type cost in practice?
Example for a senior engineer with a gross annual salary of €80,000:
| Model | Indication |
|---|---|
| Recruitment, 20 percent (exclusive) | €16,000 one-off, only on hire |
| Recruitment, 25 percent | €20,000 one-off |
| Secondment, €95 per hour, 1,600 hours per year | about €152,000 per year, for as long as the assignment runs |
| Executive search, retainer of one third of annual salary | about €27,000, also without a hire |
| RaaS | from about €2,500 per month, depending on the number of roles |
Why engineers move at all is covered in why engineers change jobs in the Netherlands: growth comes first, salary is rarely the reason.
Where Chase IT Recruitment fits, and where it does not
Chase IT Recruitment is a specialised tech recruitment agency for software, data, cloud and AI engineers in permanent roles, for companies with their own product or tech team across the Netherlands. No cure no pay (20 percent exclusive, 23 percent non-exclusive), a first suitable candidate within 5 working days, and a free replacement within 100 days. We also do executive search for tech leadership, and ServiceNow recruitment in the Netherlands and the Middle East.
We fit less well if you need temporary capacity, freelancers or large numbers of non-technical roles. A secondment firm, freelance platform or generalist is more logical then. More about us on tech recruitment agency in the Netherlands.
